The impact of this activity is already felt in the economic activity of the country, since gold has being positioned as the main item that is exported, meanwhile business organization like the Industrial Union of Panama (SIP), have highlighted the impact that mining have had in real estate and commercial activities in the city of Penonome, the main city of the province of Cocle.
A request was informally made by the Historical Heritage Department of the National Culture Institute (INAC) to Castilla del Oro Foundation to support the recovery of the tile roof of the San Francisco de la Montana’s church, located in the district of the same name, in the province of Veraguas.
The request came during a meeting held by the Castilla del Oro Foundation, led by entrepreneur Richard Fifer Carles, and the Panamanian Tourism Authority to understand, analyze and make recommendations on the implementation progress of the recovery of this country’s historical heritage.
The request was made by the deputy director of Historical Heritage, Yamileth Stanziola, who said that, as part of its legal powers, the entity has the obligation to protect and guard all the monuments, but by law each owner of a monument considered to have patrimonial value is responsible for its maintenance.
She said that currently this relic’s roof has suffered some damage due to the constant flow of vehicles nearby, which has caused some tiles to break and being replaced, and that the carpeting mounted on the roof has had some degree of filtering that may be affecting the altars which are historical monuments and since the Castilla del Oro Foundation has expressed interest in the country’s heritage values, they have taken the opportunity to respectfully ask them to work on repairing the roof.
